    -

A series of lectures presented by art historian, design expert and professional art critic, Galina Pavlova:

    – In “The Magic of Africa”, Pavlova looked at the mystery and majesty of Africa through the eyes of European painters, sculptors and photographers. She referenced by way of illustration the stunning portraits of John Kenny then on display.

    – In “I have erected a monument”, she drew on this famous quotation by Alexander Pushkin to examine the tradition of erecting equestrian monuments (horsemen).

    – In “Oh, these curves…”, she talked about the tradition of depicting the female body, and its inspiration for artists and sculptors. She referenced several of the works of South African sculptor Jean Doyle (then on display) in this context, including drawing a comparison between the Venus de Milo and Doyle’s sculpture African Dreamtime. [TBC]

    – “Oxymoron” included a tour of Leonid Sokhransky’s exhibition of the same name, together with a lecture about the sculptor’s life and work, with his participation via SKYPE.

    – “Art and Design” was a group of lectures and excursions reflecting on major styles and trends in contemporary art, which was aimed at both beginners and practicing interior designers and architects.
