  • John Kenny’s stunning fine art portraits illuminate a series of tribal societies justly proud of their traditions and cultural heritage. He has photographed in regions that stretch from the southern valleys of Ethiopia and harsh desert of northern Kenya, across to the arid hinterlands of West Africa, and beyond to the southern desert regions of Namibia and Angola.

The faces of exceptional individuals emerge from the shadows illuminated by a soft and diffuse natural light. His striking portraits emphasise beauty and inherent strength, even where resources are scarce and native lifestyles are threatened, as well as highlighting traditional clothing and accessories. Much of his work is produced as lambda prints mounted between sheets of UV plexiglass to give them maximum protection and a dramatic three dimensional quality.

Kenny’s work has been exhibited in art fairs worldwide and he has been regularly featured in the international art and photography press. His portrait, “Lines that Lead to Perfection” was sold at the “Art for Africa” auction at Sotheby’s in New York in 2011 for $10,600, and now resides in the Getty family private collection.
